"Remain" and "cook" are regular verbs! Put is an irregular verb. Put in the past is the same as in the present.

Henry put some things together. = Henry fixed or repaired some objects in his house. This way, he kept his house in good condition.
For example, a chair was broken, and he fixed it. The chimney was in bad condition, and he repaired it.
Why did Henry do this work? To keep the house in order.
He kept the house in order.
Irregular verb: keep => kept
4 - put
