The Real Player is necessary to watch these videos and to listen to the people who answer our questions. Please note that Real English is not related to the RealNetworks company in any way. We have chosen RealNetworks' real media format because in our experience, it provides the best ratio of quality video vs. disk space in comparison to other codecs such as quicktime and the windows media format.

Let's take it step by step.

You will automatically arrive at the following page after clicking on http://www.real.com/.

1 - This is the first screen you will see:

2 - The second page you see is shown below. Click on "Download the Free RealOne Player".

3 - This is the third page you will see. Click on the city closest to your location:

4 - This is the 4th screen you will see:

5 - After clicking on "Save as", you will see this "Save to disk" box (comments are underlined in in pink).

6 - The download begins:

7 - The download is finished. Click on the button on the left to "Open" the RealOne Player file.

8 - Important Click on "Custom Install - 6 steps". Then click on "Next" on the bottom right.

9 - Read the licensing agreement. Then click on "Accept" on the bottom right.

10 - Choose your connection speed. If you don't know the type or speed of your connection, ask your Administrator. Then click on "Next".

11 - Accept the install location. It is NOT necessary to click on "Browse".
For "Desktop settings", this is a personal matter. The RealNetworks company would like you to click on all of these buttons, but it is not necessary to click on any of them. When you download a Real English video, the RealOne Player will open up automatically. Click "Next". The RealOne Player begins to install on your computer.

12 - Click on "Customize".

13 - Click on "MP3" so that the box IS CHECKED. In this way, the real player will be used to play the video files AND the MP3 sound files. Then click on "OK" or "Finish".

14 - You see a screen like the one below. This particular screen has a soccer player on it because I downloaded it last June, during the World Cup playoffs.

16 - To customize the RealOne Player, click on the button as shown below:

17 - Then, click on the "x" as shown below:

18 - Finally, you will see a small, elegant, RealOne Player like this:
